Furniture fittings – what to look for

Hinges are selected by door mounting type (full overlay, half overlay, inset), door thickness and the required opening angle. Ball-bearing slides differ in width, length and load capacity – choose them by cabinet depth and drawer load. Gas struts for lift-up flaps are chosen by force in newtons to suit the weight and size of the door.

Door closers are selected by door leaf weight and width – many models offer adjustable closing speed. In series production it pays to standardise fittings across the whole furniture line – it simplifies assembly, stock and service. Fasteners for furniture can be found under Screws and Nuts.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a furniture hinge?

Define the door mounting type (full overlay, half overlay, inset), the door thickness and the required opening angle. Glass doors need dedicated glass door hinges.

How do I choose gas strut force?

The force in newtons should suit the weight and size of the door and the way it opens. Too weak a strut will not hold the door; too strong a strut makes closing difficult.

What is a push-to-open mechanism for?

It opens a door or drawer front with a light push, without a handle. It is used on handleless furniture.

What information should a fittings enquiry include?

Type of fitting, dimensions or catalogue codes and quantities. The contact form lets you send your full list in one message.
