How to choose a tape

Tape selection depends on the substrate, operating temperature and required bond durability. Acrylic and hot-melt box sealing tapes use different adhesives – choose them by packaging type and storage conditions. Non-adhesive PTFE tape seals threaded connections in plumbing, while self-adhesive PTFE fabric is used, for example, to cover parts of sealing and packaging machines.

Electrical tape insulates and marks cables, and fibreglass joint tape reinforces plasterboard joints. Aluminium foil tape is used with insulation and in ventilation systems, and double-sided acrylic tapes for permanent bonding.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between acrylic and hot-melt box tape?

They use different adhesives and behave differently under various storage conditions. The choice depends on packaging type, temperature and required adhesion.

What is PTFE tape used for?

Non-adhesive PTFE tape seals threaded connections in plumbing. Self-adhesive PTFE fabric has other uses – for example covering parts of packaging and heat-sealing machines.

How should the surface be prepared before applying tape?

The surface should be clean, dry and free of grease. Adhesion also depends on the substrate and the temperature during application.

What information should a tape enquiry include?

Tape type, width, roll length, colour if relevant, and quantity. The contact form lets you send your full list in one message.
